My name is Silja Jonsson and my home is located in the north of Sweden near a city called Umea. Together with my parents we run a large reindeer company. I got my first dog when I was one year old and from that day on I have always had dogs in my care. Before Aussies I had Working Kelpies, Border Collies and some more working breeds. I am current 16 years old.
I have raised four litters with Border Collie & Working Kelpie crosses before ever starting with Working Australian Shepherds. Believe it or not, I have sold those cross puppies all over Scandinavia (Finland, Sweden & Norway). Then I learned that stock people really needs good working dogs and they really don't care about which breed or color the dog has - as long the dog are able to work well. I feel exactly the same way, I would never choose a dog for its color, breed, sex or look. As you might understand; I am raising stock and use my dogs to work them, not otherwise! In 2006 I bought my first Australian Shepherd. It was one show bred, red merle female. After her I was rather disappointed with this breeds ability to work stock but I was totally in love with the breed itself. After a while of rethinking my choose of breed I decided to try another Aussie when I have learned by that time that this breed was split in two! I went to Denmark to pick my second Aussie up for working. This time I got a dark red solid female from full working bred lines. When I tried this pup, not yet turned one year old, on stock I realized what an amazing worker she was! I was so impressed with this dog that I now new that the Working Australian Shepherd was the one breed I wanted to care and own. They were not only the perfect working dog but also the perfect dog for me, my lifestock and my life when I am not working! In this moment I am waiting for my latest addition to the "JSD" gang, a male dog from my dear friend Russ Ford of Aggieland Stockdogs in Texas. In the future I am also planning to breed the Working Australian Shepherd. My goal is to breed the perfect working companion for any kind of livestock. I breed on the strongest, loosed-eye workers! They need to be good dogs with the desire and power to work all day long. I only breed for the strongest working cattle dog, because that fits me well.. I breed for the natural low heeler. My opinion of the perfect working companion is the dog that are able to work it all and do any tasks but also the dog that never leaves your side and the dog that will do whatever it need to, stock included or not. I can't have too many dogs running around in my home so I only keep the ones that can do it all at home! I have no desire to keep many dogs in my home, I will have the number of dogs that I have use for! Please feel free to email me at silja@cantcontrol.se if you have any wonderings. |
